Heavy Meta Gamer - Comments

Besides /everything/ else, Eric Maziade enjoys being a Dungeons & Dragons (tm) dungeon master. Meaning that he enjoys sharing time with buddies, inventing fantastic stories.

Being an analyst and an engineer, the Meta DM loves game mechanics - sometimes enough to cloud the fact that this is a game and that rules are not that important.

This is his story. (Really? That's how you end the blog description? *sigh*)

Couple things: If the archer wants to not run out of ammunition, he/she can spend 4200 gold on an endless quiver, it pops out new ammo as quickly as you can want it, so the archer can very cheaply be on equal footing with the thrown weapon guy; vorpal is only available as a +6, not a +2, and even if it were, you can only get it on axes and heavy blades, not on a dagger.

@The Chatty DM :

Hey! Thanks for dropping in!

I hope I didn't sound too melodramatic in the recap

I think I waited too long for something to
happen in this game... I wanted the PCs to emerge on their own and take
control of the world... and just waited when that didn't happen.

Provided I get the chance to DM again (probably a shared campaign), I might try your idea of setting up goals with the players up front.

One thing for sure is that there should be much more improv

Good recap.

I still think you are being too hard on yourself. You do not have the easiest group to play with. Not because of who they are... I'd DM for you guys anytime, nut rather because to the ton and a half of competing prorities at the table. Kids, Social interaction, couple issues and mismatched game interest.

Add to this an overly cautious DM with metaositis... OUCH!

Remember that discussion about dropping feathers 2 miles ahead of your players? You should actually inject some of the Meta in your games and do like I did... <Here is your mission... chose your own goals... Now what do you want to do first> and use the encounters from the Monster manual or Any low level Dungeon magazine.

My 2 cents

I think it was creepier when I told you I had a dream about you at lunch, no?

(In fact you're not even in the dream... I think the ChattyDM in there is one of my clients)
